Sunday Shout Out Week 7

Today’s message is short and simple – today’s shout out goes to all my fellow Aussies celebrating AUSTRALIA DAY.

Whether you have enjoyed an iconic BBQ somewhere, spent the day at home, been to the gym, spent the day at the Big Day Out or listening to the Hottest 100; whatever it is you have done or are doing I hope you are with loved ones and have stayed safe, spared a thought for what we are celebrating…but most importantly, had fun 🙂

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!

Sydney, Sailing and Sunburn

Australia is currently going through a heatwave.  You know it’s hot when the radio station DJ’s are warning you to keep drinking plenty of water and to go shopping centres or movie theatres if your house doesn’t have air conditioning!!

Although it is up in the low 40’s (around 107ish for those of you who may not use the metric system) it has been cooler down the coast so yesterday my best friend and I spent the day at the beach.  It was lovely – we had some good quality girl time, chatting and laughing mixed with time in the sun and surf 🙂

I think this sums up the Australian beach scene quite nicely. Without a cloud in the sky it was the perfect beach day 🙂

Shout Out Sunday Week 2

Shout Out Sunday Week 2

This week’s Sunday Shout Out goes out to all of the firefighters fighting the horrendous fires in New South Wales (a state in Australia for those who don’t know).  It is really scary that we are having fires in October which is still Spring and not the normal fire season.  Many of the firefighters are volunteers, and even our Prime Minister is helping out! (He has been a volunteer firefighter since 2000).
It is wonderful to see, that even now, as the Prime Minister, he is continuing to do what he did before.
Let’s hope that these fires can be contained soon. Many people have lost homes and some have died – my thoughts go out to them at this horrible time.

Spring, Squats and Sugar free challenges

Dinner tonight was great – a good mix of protein, carbs and healthy fats (coconut oil):

And now, as I sit here at the kitchen table with a cup of green tea, I am glad I resisted the temptation of a creme caramel dessert in the fridge!

It’s been a while and I apologise – from this week on I have decided to schedule in a block of 1-2 hours each week entirely to blogging!  Reading other people’s latest posts in addition to writing my own.  Hopefully, in time, I can increase this back up to a couple of times a week but for now I think that’s an achievable goal.

So, what’s been happening I hear you ask?   Read the rest of this entry »

Snags, Triple J and Coconut Oil

There’s so much I want to say right now, but I have limited time so let’s see how I go.

First up:

For those of you who don’t know, on the 26th of January each year, Australia commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet into Botany Bay, Sydney.  It is a public holiday (if on a weekend we have the following Monday off) for every state and territory in Australia and a day where utes, BBQ’s, Aussie flags, the colours green n gold, Pavlova, Vegemite, the boxing kangaroo and beer make an appearance everywhere.  I did happen to spot a few akubra’s around the streets this morning too!

The one thing I hate about summer!

The one thing I hate about summer!

Now, I am a summer baby and I LOVE the season – you can go to the beach, wear cute outfits, it’s daylight longer and so you can exercise at night, it’s warm and there’s a party atmosphere! But, no, I did not invite this little guy to the party?! I think as I am getting older I am becoming more of a mosquito magnet than ever before! I am currently covered in bites on my legs and arms from Saturday night. And, it’s driving me CRAZY! What I would like to know is does anyone out there have a tried and tested technique which helps to get rid of the itch? Or to avoid getting bitten in the first place?
