Progression of me

from eighty four to now…

Progression

Hi all!  Just a short post tonight…

This morning at GRIT there was a new girl next to me.  She didn’t put much weight on her bar; and did stop a few times along the way but I was still impressed with the effort she put in.  I must admit that I compared myself to where she was and thought back to when I first tried out GRIT.  I still have to slow down a bit sometimes or miss a rep; although today I didn’t have to stop and I was able to do more reps than I normally would.  I also increased the weight I use on my free weight for a bit more of a challenge.

When I think back to my first GRIT class I can see how far I have come.  My fitness and strength have improved dramatically and although it never gets easier; I left the class with a smile knowing that I am progressing each and every session.

I hope that the new girl continues to train so that she too, can look back in 6 months time and see how far she has come.

It doesn’t get easier – you just get stronger.

Sunday Shout Out – 9

Back in 2005 my workplace offered free Pilates classes for a period of time. It ensured that for 1 hr at least twice a week we could get away from our desk; recharge; relax and do something towards our health/fitness. When that stopped I tried one or two classes outside of the work environment but just didn’t feel it was the same. Needless to say I didn’t do it again.

Until 2 weeks ago.

I decided to give the class at our gym ago – and realised all over again how awesome it is. Due to the timing of the class coinciding with my PT sessions I can only do it once a fortnight but I intend to do it every second week with the possibility of switching my PT to another day/time down the track.

So far I’ve had two classes and OMG! The instructor is great; and I remember now how good it is for both your body and your mind. After the class I have felt, revived and more at peace and I feel like my body is a bit more “re-set”. Both classes have already got me focussing on the correct way to move my pelvis/abs/hips/lower back which affects the way I lift too. It also helps me to learn to isolate certain muscles. I’ve realised too how all of this affects your every day life – improving posture and alignment etc and I’m really excited about having added this to my routine.

If you’ve never tried Pilates I highly recommend it. Young or old. Male or female (we had 3 men in our class on Thursday) at least give it a go.

Happy!

Tonight at Zumba we had a very small class. There were only 5 of us which was kinda cool. I normally try to get to Zumba at least once a week – ideally twice. Wednesday night’s always tend to be smaller for some reason. When I go on Saturdays it is always jam-packed.

Anyway I really enjoyed tonight’s class – there was a good mix of tracks, some laughs and we ended the class with HAPPY by Pharrell Williams. As I left I felt really energised and well…HAPPY! So I thought I’d share this song with anyone who hasn’t heard it before. If you can’t smile and feel happy listening to it then I think there’s something wrong with you 😛

It also got me thinking of how important it is to enjoy your work outs. It’s the key to keeping motivated. If you really don’t enjoy a form of exercise DON’T try to force yourself to do it. Find something you love and you’ll find your motivation. It’s that simple 🙂

Good night all xx

GRIT – Pump on speed!

My friend Coffee2Words and I both go to the same (awesome) gym.  When I first joined I started going to boxing/kickboxing classes with her, but then I realised it wasn’t really for me.  I really enjoy my weights training and so stuck with that – going on my own or to my PT sessions.  Recently my boyfriend has also joined and come along with me a couple of times so that’s good too.

Anyway, C2W decided she wanted to try GRIT:

I’m always up for trying something new and although the idea of it scared the crap out of me I figured it’s only 30 minutes – I could do that, right?

Well, yes, I did – but OMG!  Hardest 30 minutes of my life!  I have done Pump before, and my best way to explain GRIT is it’s like Pump on speed!  FULL ON the WHOLE 30 minutes!  But, as full on as it was, it was well worth it, as you can see from the below:

Image

Although I did swear numerous times throughout the class and I thought I was going to die at one point it was a great class.  The best bit is it’s a full body work out – squats, lunges, push ups, curls, chest press, burpees, ab work and much more!  There was music playing, but to be completely honest I don’t think I even noticed it!  The instructor was awesome too – when we told him we were new he explained what we needed and kept us motivated the whole time.  He also mentioned that if we were to do it once a week we would definitely see results (WOO HOO!)

Next week apparently they move on to another release so it will be interesting what they do in that class.

So, yes – I’m going to pull my butt out of bed at 5:15am again next Tuesday to give GRIT another go.

I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something challenging, to kick-start your morning! LET’S GO TUESDAY!!!!!! 😉
