Something New!

2015 so far!

Happy New Year to you all!  I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable festive season and as we move into another brand new year, I wish you all the best.  If last year wasn’t your finest moment, then wipe that slate clean and jump back on that wagon!  If 2014 was a good one then keep that momentum flowing into the new year and make it even BETTER!

An urge to write…

It’s rare that I have the time to spontaneously sit down and write; but at this present moment I do.  You guys will know by now that I normally have to schedule in my blogging and even then it doesn’t always happen!  But today has been a productive day and suddenly I have this urge to write.

My Friday began with a gym session with Coffee2Words, followed by a tasty breakfast here.  It used to be some what of a ritual for us but doesn’t happen so often anymore.  After breakfast I headed off to uni for a lecture and then had a hot beverage with another friend before heading home to complete an online test for the same subject.  It was harder than I thought, so I’m a little worried about my results.

Following the test, I did some cleaning around the house and had some lunch.  I read a little bit of my current ‘30 things‘ novel “The Kite Runner” and then did a couple of other daily tasks.

I’m feeling good.

For those of you who may not know, I have finally begun studying – a plan I’ve had in place for a couple of years now.  Initially I was looking to study Nutrition on its own but instead I am studying a Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Human Nutrition.  A double degree.  And I’m loving it!  It’s hard work but I am finding the course just as fascinating as I hoped.

As I continue my studies I’m hoping to share with you any facts or interesting information I come across along the way and if you guys have any questions at all I’d love to hear from you!

I was planning on moving over to a different site but that has taken a bit of a back seat for now.  My whole routine has taken a bit of a tumble and I’m still trying to figure myself out.  Uni, the gym, my 30 things project, my social life.  Trying to find some sort of order.  I know I work best when I have order and a routine; so why is that the hardest part???

Next week we have a class free week.  My main aim is to get up-to-date with all of my classes; but I also think working out a routine might be on the cards too.

Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Time keeps ticking…

One thing I’ve come to realise this year is how life can sometimes just pick you and up and take hold for a while. It sets you down again and you’re like “uhhh where did the last 3 months go?!” A lot has happened since I last posted on here – I met a great guy and thought it was going wonderfully and it all blew up in my face…I’ve had numerous health issues (currently in the process of being sorted), I headed overseas for 10 days and last week I started uni full time.

I’ve always liked change (I decided to change up my hair style with a bold colour last week too) and I believe I am rather good at adapting to it. But is there such a thing as too much change?

Sometimes I think I’m always trying to do too many things at once – this year really is no exception. My 30 things list is coming along, but I’m beginning to think (particularly with my studies) maybe I was too ambitious. Is that a bad thing though?

Now I have started uni I am having to plan my week a bit more solidly. So I intend to incorporate into my schedule, time for a blog post. As you are all aware I’ve never been the most consistent of posters – I get into a bit of a posting phase but it never really becomes routine. I figure if I am to write once a week that would be a good start.

What I am planning on doing however, is using my blog for one of my class assignments. We are able to use any format we like (word document, live presentation, youtube video etc) and I thought – why not use my blog. That way I can get feedback from YOU guys! I would really appreciate it and so hope that you will be able to interactive with me over the coming weeks.

Speak soon 🙂

M.O.T.I.V.A.T.I.O.N

Can you relate to any of these?

Impatience – you analyse a plan according to how it’s “supposed” to work, and often conclude too soon that it’s not working for you.

Analysis Paralysis – you keep adding additional workouts and customizations to your program, and you end up exhausted, discouraged and perhaps injured.

Extremism – you throw yourself into unsustainable nutritional or supplement schemes that are beyond your budget or just not a good fit with your lifestyle and/or abilities.

Perfectionism – you’re prone to skipping workouts when everything isn’t “just right”.  Maybe you forgot your pre-workout, your music or a piece of gear for instance.  Same for nutrition – if everything isn’t perfect you take it as an excuse to eat junk.

Ambition – you’re unrealistic in your aspirations. You set goals that are too lofty or extreme for your abilities, age or the amount of time you have. Then you beat yourself up when you can’t achieve them.

If you can, then you’re not alone!  These are hurdles which the personality type “the thinker” has to overcome.  [Check out my previous post here]  And these hurdles are often the reason behind our loss of motivation…..

Earlier this week I posed a question on my Facebook page – Was there anything in particular my followers/readers would like to hear about?  It was suggested I write a post about motivation when getting back into fitness after a break.  What a perfect suggestion!  I’m hoping by giving others advise that it will in turn motivate me too 🙂

Self Belief.

Today I achieved something I thought I’d never do.

I completed my first Fun Run!

And even more importantly I did it without walking.

Stoked doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel; and I’m even thinking it won’t be my last…

Who’d have thunk it?!  At school I was never a runner.  In fact I HATED running.  And as an adult if I ever had to run; I could hardly run 100m without gasping for breath and feeling as if I would die.

March Madness

March…Autumn…we’re already closing in on April!  Where the hell has 2014 gone already?  I know we say this every year, but surely – this year is disappearing quicker than any year before!!!

Maybe it’s because we are constantly looking towards our next goal..our next project…our next meal even?  But it’s this preparation which can often help us achieve big things.

Just under 2 weeks ago I created a calendar scheduling in my work outs and decided to get back into the habit of taking my food with me to work etc.  So far it’s been working a treat!  And I’m loving the routine!  But I feel, as I’m constantly looking towards the next day or the next few days, that the weeks are slipping by!  How do you stay prepared whilst living in the moment?  Is there a way to stop time from moving so quickly?  I don’t know if this is possible to answer and with my 30 Project I find I’m constantly doing one thing or another.

I recently double booked myself not once but twice with the same friend and I felt horrible.  Luckily I was able to get out of work but the other double booking was a wedding so I can’t really not go!  Luckily my friend is extremely awesome and understanding and so she didn’t make it into a huge deal (although she did admit it didn’t make her feel good); but it still got me thinking with SO much going on I need to ensure I am keeping track of everything.  I was really good at writing everything into my diary at one point, but have been a bit slack lately – so I’m going to make sure I get this habit back on track!

This isn’t the only thing though, and I’m sure I’ve touched on this many times before; but with so much going on in life; I think it’s more important than ever to spend some time simply relaxing / letting ourselves unwind.  Even for just ten minutes a night.  So I’m going to spend 10 minutes before bed doing some deep breathing exercises on my foam roller.  Trying to empty my mind of the day so that I am relaxed, ready to sleep and begin the next day.

Looks like that’s another thing to add to the calendar 😉
