Progression of me

from eighty four to now…

Sydney, Sailing and Sunburn

Australia is currently going through a heatwave.  You know it’s hot when the radio station DJ’s are warning you to keep drinking plenty of water and to go shopping centres or movie theatres if your house doesn’t have air conditioning!!

Although it is up in the low 40’s (around 107ish for those of you who may not use the metric system) it has been cooler down the coast so yesterday my best friend and I spent the day at the beach.  It was lovely – we had some good quality girl time, chatting and laughing mixed with time in the sun and surf 🙂

I think this sums up the Australian beach scene quite nicely. Without a cloud in the sky it was the perfect beach day 🙂

Shout Out Sunday Week 3

Shout Out Sunday Week 3

Yes you heard correctly – Sunday Shout Out’s are back!

This week’s Shout Out is a tribute to the late Nelson Mandela who passed away on the 5th of December at the age of 95.
This time 4 years ago I was travelling through Africa and I visited Robben Island where Mr Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. It was a very sobering experience.
Mr Mandela did some amazing things in his lifetime and it is people like him that make the world a better place.

RIP Nelson Mandela.

The wonderful world of Jetlag.

Grumpy and irritable.  Things that normally don’t bother me are like neon beacons flashing at me – tempting me to explode.  Oh how I have NOT missed this feeling.  Although I love travel, I hate the jet lag that comes with it….I’m affected by lack of sleep on a good day….when it’s magnified like this I’m pushed to my absolute limits and the bitch inside me wants to come out and play.

And we’re done…

My final day at work in Sydney.  Possibly, the last day I will ever work in Sydney…possibly not.  Who knows what the future will bring, but now it’s time to say goodbye to this vibrant, often-crazy city and rekindle my relationship with the city I grew up in.

A lot has happened in the past 6 or so years.  I’ve achieved some great things and learnt some very valuable skills and lessons.  I have made some friends who I know will be part of my life forever.  I also know that there were people that I met along the way who may not have liked me or visa versa but they were a necessary part of the journey.  I think too, that each person you meet influences your life in one way or another.

So why would I want to leave Sydney?  If I had a dollar for every person who has asked me that…well I’d be a very rich person.

Honestly?  It’s just time.  Sydney has opened it’s arms to me and I’ve taken from it what I’ve needed.  Now it’s time to move on….to take what I’ve learnt and use it elsewhere.  Somewhere slower paced, with my family and close friends around me.  I’m excited for this new chapter and next week I plan to sit down and write a list of new goals.  I think I’ll do a bit of updating of this blog too….

A new city…a new structure.

To Sydney – thanks for the journey.  It’s been fun.  To the amazing new friends I now have in my life, it is you that have made the journey!

The Magic of Travel

The Magic of Travel

What do you think when you look at this image? Paradise? Well, you’d be pretty close!!! This is where I spent the better half of the last week. And wow – what an amazing part of the world the Gili Islands are.

This time last year, if someone had mentioned the Gili Islands I would not have had a clue about them, and probably not much interest in visiting. Closer to Lombok than to Bali as I originally thought, the ocean is crystal clear, the sand white and the people relaxed and friendly…

I wish I could have stayed longer but it was the perfect taster – just enough to feel worthwhile, but to allow me to leave wanting more.

I am feeling much more relaxed and refreshed after my trip away with the girls. It’s amazing the power travel has on a you can allow your mind to wander, leaving you with questions answered and feeling revived and alive! I now feel I have the energy to dive headfirst into the last month or so of work and health/fitness before I head to America…

A change of scenery…

At the age of 19, I left home and moved to the United Kingdom for 12 months.  I was young and thought I knew so much about life and the world…it was only when I landed on the other side of the planet that I realised I was not as grown up as I had thought.  During that time, I learnt so much about myself and the world, that to this day I believe it was one of the most important life journeys I have undertaken so far.
