Progression of me

from eighty four to now…

You know that feeling of guilt when you eat something that you aren’t “supposed” to eat?

That feeling of regret you have after you eat something “bad” for you?

Life is way too short for the anxiety that “trying to be healthy” causes.

Life is there to be enjoyed…in moderation!

One image I’ve seen which really hits home is:

It is so, so true!  Fad diets come and go yet staring us all right in the face the whole time is “moderation“.   80/20.  It’s just finding a way of making it work for you.  For changing your mindset.

Sometimes I feel that life is one step forward, two steps back.  You are told something new and it might take numerous different explanations until you can actually say “YES! Now I get it“.  Sometimes you need to practice it and figure out your own way of doing it before you can then pass on the knowledge to others.

I feel very much that this is the case with me and my diet.  Yes I know everything should be eaten in moderation, yes I know that sugar and deep-fried crap is good for me doesn’t stop me eating it though and yes I know that it won’t happen overnight (but it will happen!) but it’s about finding the way that works for me.  I might get it when someone explains it to me, but I can’t quite do it on my own just yet.

And now I’ve stumbled across IIFYM.  Which stands for “If It Fits Your Macros”.

In a nutshell it has to do with calories in vs calories out.  There is a lot of science behind it all which I’m not sure about (possibly when I get to my nutrition course I will understand more) but from what I can gather it’s a pretty good concept.  You work out how many calories you need to consume and it breaks it down into carbs, fats and proteins and as long as it fits you can eat it.  There is nothing off-limits as such; and as long as you’re sensible and ensure you are getting all the good stuff you need I can’t see it being a bad thing!

I still have a lot of research to do but I think this could be worth a shot.  It sounds like something I could do!  There’s no restrictions, so there should effectively be no guilt!  As long as I am smart and stick to the key word here “moderation” I think this could be a go-er….

I’m going to keep looking into it and I think I’ll give it a go come October.  Why October you ask?  Well I have a lot going on over the next two weeks and I know for a fact I will not have the time to prepare (and from the looks of it you need a lot of prep time).  So October is the go.  I’ll keep you updated!

Have any of you tried out IIFYM eating?  How did you go?  I’d love you hear your thoughts!

My Fitness Pal had that macro stuff in it, not sure if you would need to modify the defaults or not, but might be worth looking at to help with tracking food intake 🙂

    • Yes, I have heard this – might have to get back into using My Fitness Pal again. I think having a goal though will make using it seem like less of a chore 🙂 Do you know much about IIFYM?

Not a lot, there was loads of conflicting information by ‘experts’ on MFP. I tried some of the suggested things out but found it difficult to stick to. Perhaps I wasn’t doing it right?!?

      • Yeah – there is SOOO much info out there – but I’ve found a few good blogs/websites I’m using to research – I figure getting a much information as I can before I start is the best way. Knowledge is power and all that.

  2. […] better than it was a year ago.  I just need to keep up the consistency.  I know back in my post here I mentioned wanting to give IIFYM a go, and part of me still wants to do this but I need someone to […]
