Happy Holidays!

on December 23, 2012

My favourite time of year is upon us – a time for giving, a time for catching up with loved ones and the weather is always so nice and hot!!!  (Here in Australia anyway).  A perfect time for celebrations!

As of Friday, I have a week off work and so am staying with my family in our Nations Capital – Canberra.  I can’t say how good it is to have left the big smoke of Sydney.  I feel relaxed and re-energised and I have noticed since being down here that everyone is a lot more friendly and embraces the holiday season much more!

Although it has only been a few days so far it has already given me time to reflect on the year that has been and begin the preparations for the new year.  Over the next few posts I am going to note down my plans for getting my health and fitness back on track.  2013 – it will be a fresh start!  Exciting!

Last week after work we had a team Christmas dinner and exchanged Christmas gifts.  My gift was a beautiful little candle and some “Believe Mantra Cards” from Lorna Jane.  The perfect gift, as I have been focussing on improving my motivation lately.  I believe this will come in handy in the new year to help me get on track!

I know that there is a saying “why put off until tomorrow what you can do today” and that I really should start getting back on track now…but Christmas is the one time of year you should be able to relax, and enjoy without feeling guilty.  It’s interesting that I have written “should” in two sentences here….I was watching an episode of Sex and the City earlier and Carrie mentioned a similar thing….

I wondered if should was another disease plaguing women.
Did we want babies and perfect honeymoons,
or did we think we should have babies and perfect honeymoons?
How do we separate what we could do and what we should do?
And here’s an alarming thought.
It’s not just peer pressure, it seems to be coming from within.
Why are we should-ing all over ourselves?

It really gets me thinking – who am I doing all of this for?  Ultimately – it’s what it all comes down too.  Am I doing it for me or am I doing it because I think it’s what I SHOULD do?  This is what I need to work out before I can move on…this is where the Foundations of Health come in – where I need to get my thoughts in order before I can move on to the next foundation.

In the mean time, I’m going to stop stressing and worrying and just enjoy this season for what it is.  Good company, laughter, food, music, Santa Claus, pretty lights, amazing warm weather and fun!  And that little boy born in a manger in a stable which is the reason for it all…..

Merry Christmas everyone!
