Failure and learning from it

Tonight I discovered a channel on my radio called “Elf Radio” and it is ALL about Christmas music.  I am a huge fan of the season and so right now, as I type this up, I’m in my element and feeling good 🙂  It’s been a long day at work and I’m feeling rather exhausted so chilling out this way is great – but more on my love of Christmas later….Where was I going with this..oh yes, work has picked up a bit again and so I’ve struggled a little bit with my recently updated challenge.

I gave myself 3 goals for the week – and I managed to succeed with one.  Which made me think – was setting 3 goals being too ambitious?  Either way, this is the point where I would normally go “stuff it – I couldn’t even do 3 simple things” and I’d quit everything all together.  But this is where I need to focus on that positive rather than the negatives.  I need to remind myself it’s OK to fail.

As Michael Jordan said “I can accept failure.  Everyone fails at something.  But I can’t accept not trying…fear is an illusion”

Another quote I also really like which has a fair amount of relevance to the past year for me is:

Late last month I undertook a course at work and we discussed a concept which really got me thinking….I’m unsure if it has a specific name or not – but the acronym is: DBJQ

Denial

Blame

Justification

Quit

How many times have you found yourself doing any/all of the above?  I can tell you now, I’ve caught myself doing some if not all of these steps daily!  When it came to not being able to complete my 3 goals I started justifying why…and yes, I gave up!  But now, I’m on a mission to stop it!  It’s all about being accountable for your actions and this is the only way we are going to learn!

So, I have succeeded in the 2 Litres of water each day – and in the past week I invested in some of the below:

If you’ve never heard of this stuff then please google it and check out the amazing health benefits.  It really is amazing.  Over the past week I’ve started my day with a pint glass of water with 2 teaspoons of the stuff, and I’m feeling good!  It also helps me to achieve that 2 L of water goal!!!  The main thing about this is I know for a fact this is something that I will be able to keep up.

And I think this is it, we need to make our goals achievable…if you set a goal that’s unrealistic you are never going to achieve it.  Yes, as I said before, failure is good…particularly if it motivates you to get back up there and try again….but too much failure…not so good…

So – small, achievable goals!  That’s what it’s all about 🙂
